Deborah Jane Deeney Evans, 61, of Waukon, died Sunday, January 26, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.  She courageously fought cancer, finding out she was cancer-free just a few months before her brief illness.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Jim Dubert officiating.  Burial will be at Lycurgus Cemetery at a later date.  Friends may call prior to the funeral service, 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Deb was born on October 24, 1952, the youngest child of Harold “Sonny” and Jeanette (Moen) Deeney.  She attended St. Patrick Catholic and Waukon schools, and married Jim Evans at St. Patrick Catholic Church on November 6, 1971.

She volunteered as a Girl Scout Troop Leader when her children were young, and enjoyed supporting their school activities.  She held a variety of jobs around Waukon, and owned the Rampage t-shirt shop in downtown Waukon.  In her later years, she worked as a home aide, helping several Waukon residents with basic tasks in their homes.

Deb was an outgoing person, who enjoyed having a cup of coffee with her many friends.  She loved flowers and hummingbirds.  She would often spend time sitting outdoors, even in the rain, because “what could it hurt?”.  She loved music, especially Elvis Presley, and enjoyed watching and talking about whatever current singing talent show was on TV.

Deb greatly enjoyed spending time with her three daughters and five granddaughters.  She was fond of chastising them with a “You girls”, and her words of wisdom and wit will be missed.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Evans, children Sarah (Jeff Stephens) of West Des Moines, IA, Heather (Arlis White Jr.) of Luana, IA, and Betsy (Lucas Halverson) of Boca Raton, FL, the grandchildren she adored, Faye and Norah Stephens, and Kayleigh, Ella and Cori White, and her siblings, Richard (Jan) Deeney of Marion, IA, Tom (Diana) Deeney of Waukon, IA, and Carole Fish of Waukon, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brother-in-laws, Myron Bray and LeRoy Fish.
